Bob Flocke, “I have not endorsed nor supported any candidate”
I just received this email from Mayor Bob Flocke. I thought I could help him by psoting and sharing online. Please read:
Please excuse this intrusion on your Friday evening. I have tried very hard over the past six years not to use this forum for opinion or editorializing. However, a mailer this week from a local political action committee (Citizens for Common Sense) has dragged my name into a Wimberley election campaign that I had hoped to avoid. In Wimberley’s 12-year history of incorporation there have been “blue letters” and “white letters.” While this campaign literature has purported to support specific candidates, they have usually done so by trashing their opponents. This is no way to campaign. A candidate runs for office by touting what he or she will do if elected, not by trashing their opponents. This sort of low campaign has no place in politics and should be seen for what it is–attack advertising. In the latest edition, Citizens for Common Sense uses my name to imply that I support the two candidates that the group is funding for election and to confuse voters. I have carefully remained out of the current campaign. I believe that it is not appropriate for a sitting council member of mayor to participate in campaigns for other positions on the council. I have not endorsed nor supported any candidate in the current election, and certainly do not support attack ads by candidates or their supporters. Tomorrow is election day, and I urge all of you to go out and vote for the candidates that you believe will do the best job for our community.
